The important notification for US cinema projectionists from FOX for the accompanying eagerly awaited Revenge of the Jedi trailer showing with the 13th August 1982 limited re-release of the original Star Wars, which now had the opening crawl extra subtitling of Episode IV: A New Hope.

A SNEAK PEEK FOR ONTARIO!

Sent to the Ontario Board of Film, the Revenge of the Jedi teaser trailer of December 1982 would surely have been a thrilling prospect to see, just as it was for the rest of the world's Star Wars fans of the time. It's always fun to see the original film prints or rolls of Classic Trilogy related items that have materialized for the early-titled film, and this is certainly a special one- an item that was sold a few years back on Ebay.

Returning to US cinemas for a fourth time on 13th August 1982, the original STAR WARS latest re-release poster had an additional hook to pull in fans old and new: a teaser trailer for REVENGE OF THE JEDI. By November of that year, the rumblings of the titles changing back to RETURN were beginning to happen...

THE FIRST 'REVENGE' TRAILER - A NEW DISCOVERY

A wonderful recent find from the ACADEMY AWARDS Archives of the US has revealed what could be the first official trailer for REVENGE OF THE JEDI, shown to a rare few British cinema audiences alongside a special STAR WARS/THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK double bill, whose run commenced on May 30th, 1982. The trailer has no footage but contained photo scenes from the movie (planned for release at Christmas 1983 (too long a wait that would have been!) which had only just completed its bulk shooting at London's Elstree Studios, including an intriguing shot of Luke Skywalker with Darth Vader. After the grim revelations of EMPIRE, had he turned to the Dark Side?
